LP Inc - The Nihira Box
A delightful and decorative accent for any console table, shelf or mantel, this petite trinket box makes a charming keepsake gift for someone special. I features an intricate blue floral design on a cream-colored ground. Finished with a black lacquered interior, it's the ideal home for jewelry and other small and treasured items.
Mir Syed Ali Hamandi, a Persian mystic, introduced papier-maché to India in the 14th Century while traveling in Kashmir.. Over time, Kashmiri artisans added their own flourishes, and thus developed the tradition of Kashmiri design.
The first step, Sakhtsazi, involves making the foundation of the object with paper pulp: papier-maché. The second, Naqashi, is the final step of decoration—painting and lacquering. The colors are derived from minerals or vegetable bases. Because each design is made by hand, this means that no Kashmiri papier-maché object is exactly the same.
Lindsay sourced these beautiful vintage creations on her trip to India. They would be perfect on your mantelpiece or side tables, and the boxes could be a lovely place to store jewelry and other keepsakes on your vanity.
